For today’s exact time, always use the live widget above.

Fajr is earliest in mid-June (about 3:13 AM) and latest in mid-January (about 5:20 AM). Maghrib ranges from about 4:52 PM in early December to 6:50 PM at the end of June, which is why summer days in Kuwait feel so long.
How prayer times in Kuwait are calculated
Every prayer time is tied to the position of the sun over Kuwait. Our widget uses the AlAdhan service with the “Kuwait” calculation method, which matches the timetable used by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the times broadcast from mosques:
| Prayer | When it starts | Rule used in Kuwait |
|---|---|---|
| Fajr | Dawn, when light first appears on the eastern horizon | Sun 18° below the horizon |
| Sunrise (Shuruq) | Top edge of the sun appears | Fajr time ends; no prayer |
| Dhuhr | Just after the sun passes its highest point | Solar noon plus a short safety margin |
| Asr | Shadow of an object equals its length plus its noon shadow | Standard (Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanbali) method |
| Maghrib | Immediately after sunset | Sun fully below the horizon |
| Isha | When twilight disappears | Sun 17.5° below the horizon |
Because the calculation depends on latitude and longitude, areas in the west of the country such as Jahra and Abdali see slightly later times than Kuwait City, while southern and eastern areas such as Ahmadi, Fahaheel and Wafra are about a minute earlier. The differences are small enough that most residents follow the Kuwait City timetable.
Shia (Ja’fari) prayer times
Jaʿfari timetables used by Shia mosques in Kuwait use a slightly lower Fajr angle and delay Maghrib until the redness in the eastern sky has gone, so Maghrib is typically 10–20 minutes later than the standard time. If you follow the Jaʿfari school, check the timetable published by your local husseiniya or mosque.
Hanafi Asr time
Followers of the Hanafi school, including many residents from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, pray Asr when an object’s shadow is twice its length. In Kuwait this is roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes after the standard Asr time shown above, depending on the season.
Friday (Jumu’ah) prayer in Kuwait
Jumuʿah replaces Dhuhr on Fridays. In most Kuwaiti mosques the first adhan is called at the time of Dhuhr and the khutbah begins shortly afterwards, so the prayer usually finishes within 30–40 minutes of Dhuhr. Large mosques such as the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City fill up early, so arrive at least 20 minutes before Dhuhr. Friday is the official weekend in Kuwait, so traffic near mosques is heavy around midday.
- Winter Fridays (November–February): Jumuʿah around 11:35 AM–12:05 PM.
- Summer Fridays (May–August): Jumuʿah around 11:45 AM–11:55 AM.
- Many mosques offer a translated khutbah summary in English, Urdu or Malayalam; ask at your local mosque.
Prayer times and working hours for expats
Kuwait’s Labour Law does not set a fixed prayer break, but most employers allow short breaks for Dhuhr and Asr during the working day, and government offices pause service briefly at Dhuhr. A few practical points:
- Summer midday outdoor work is banned from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM between 1 June and 31 August, which overlaps Dhuhr and Asr – many site workers pray at the worksite rest area.
- Shops and malls stay open during prayers, though some smaller stores close for 10–15 minutes.
- Banks and ministry service counters may pause briefly at Dhuhr; book appointments outside 11:45 AM–12:15 PM if you can.
- During Ramadan, working hours are cut and Maghrib marks iftar; see our Ramadan imsakiya.
Fasting hours in Kuwait
Fasting runs from Fajr to Maghrib. Using the 2026 reference times, a fast in mid-June lasts about 15 hours 36 minutes, while in mid-December it is about 11 hours 42 minutes. Ramadan 1448 is expected to start around 8 February 2027, when the fast will be roughly 12 hours 30 minutes. Check the Ramadan countdown for the latest expected date.
Qibla direction and mosques in Kuwait
The Qibla from Kuwait City is about 241° from true north (south-west). Our Qibla direction tool uses your phone compass to point the way. Kuwait has more than 1,500 mosques, and almost every residential block has one within walking distance; women’s prayer areas are available in most larger mosques and in all major malls.
