How to read the live weather box
Choose your area from the list in the weather box above. It shows the current temperature and the feels-like temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, the air-quality index and dust levels, followed by a 7-day forecast with daily highs, lows and UV index. Data comes from the Open-Meteo forecast service and refreshes every 15 minutes.
- Feels-like matters more than the air temperature in August and September, when coastal humidity makes 40°C feel much hotter.
- UV index in Kuwait reaches very high levels from late spring to early autumn; above 8, cover up and avoid the midday sun.
- Air quality above 150 is unhealthy for everyone, and above 100 for people with asthma or heart conditions.
- Wind from the north-west (the Shamal) usually means dust; south-easterly winds bring humidity.

Kuwait weather in October and November
Late October is a turning point. Afternoon highs are still in the mid-30s, but nights fall into the low 20s and the extreme humidity of September eases. By November, days are pleasant at around 25–27°C and the first rains usually arrive. This is when Kuwaitis traditionally say the hot season is over and families start planning desert outings and camping for the winter.
Evening temperatures from November to March are perfect for walks on the Gulf Road, Shuwaikh beach or Al Shaheed Park. Carry a light jacket after sunset in December and January.
Traditional Kuwaiti seasons
Many Kuwaitis still describe the weather by traditional seasons from the old Kuwaiti calendar, such as the one popularised by the Al-Ojairi family. You will hear these names on local television and in conversation:
| Season | Approximate time | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Suhail | Late August | Rising of the star Suhail; the worst heat starts to break, nights slowly cool |
| Al-Wasm | Mid-October to early December | Start of the rainy season; first showers and cooler nights |
| Al-Murabaaniya | From early December, about 40 days | Coldest part of winter; cold nights in the desert |
| Spring storms (Sarayat) | Spring, around April–May | Sudden thunderstorms, strong winds and dust |
These dates are traditional guides, not official forecasts. For warnings, always follow the Kuwait Meteorological Department.
Weather differences across Kuwait’s areas
Kuwait is small and flat, but the weather is not identical everywhere. Distance from the sea makes the biggest difference: coastal areas are more humid and a little milder at night, while inland and desert areas have bigger swings between day and night.
| Area type | Examples | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Coastal city | Salmiya, Kuwait City, Fintas, Mahboula | Higher humidity, especially August–September; slightly warmer nights |
| Inland residential | Farwaniya, Jleeb, Sabah Al Salem | Hot, drier air; dust more noticeable |
| North and west | Jahra, Abdali, Mitribah | Hottest summer days; coldest winter nights |
| South | Ahmadi, Wafra, Khiran | Similar to inland, sea breeze near the coast at Khiran |
Weather tips for new arrivals
- Light, loose cotton clothing works best from May to October; air-conditioned offices and malls can feel cold, so carry a layer.
- Park in shade or use a windscreen sun shade – steering wheels and seats get too hot to touch in summer.
- Service your home and car air-conditioning before May; repair companies are fully booked in midsummer.
- Use sunscreen and sunglasses all year; the sun is strong even in winter.
- Plan errands, exercise and walking for early morning or after sunset between June and September.
- Keep an eye on the forecast before desert trips – fog, dust and rain can change conditions quickly.
Summer heat rules and safety
- Midday outdoor work ban: from 1 June to 31 August, outdoor work is banned between 11 AM and 4 PM. Workers can report violations to the Public Authority for Manpower.
- Drink water before you feel thirsty, avoid direct sun from 11 AM to 4 PM, and never leave children or pets in a parked car – the inside of a car heats up dangerously within minutes.
- Car batteries and tyres fail most in summer; keep the roadside assistance numbers handy.
- Electricity demand peaks in July and August, and scheduled power cuts have been announced in some areas in recent summers – see MEW bills and outages.
- Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, heavy sweating, nausea and headache. Move to shade, drink water and call 112 if symptoms worsen or the person becomes confused.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone stops sweating, becomes confused or collapses in the heat, call 112 immediately and cool them with water while you wait.
Dust storms and air quality
The north-westerly Shamal wind brings dust from Iraq and Saudi Arabia, mostly from March to July. When the air-quality index goes above 150, people with asthma should stay indoors, close windows and run the AC on recirculate. Schools sometimes switch to remote learning, and the civil aviation authority can delay flights for low visibility.
- Drive slowly with headlights on during dust storms, and pull over safely if you cannot see the road ahead.
- Keep an N95 or similar mask in the car for very dusty days.
- Change the AC filters at home and in the car more often in the dust season.
- Follow the Kuwait Meteorological Department (met.gov.kw and @KuwaitMet on X) for official warnings.
Rain, flooding and winter
Most of Kuwait’s 100–120 mm of annual rain falls between November and April in a few heavy storms. Roads and tunnels flood quickly, so the government often announces work-from-home or school suspensions on storm days. Winter nights in the desert can drop below 5°C, so the camping season from December to March needs warm layers.
- Avoid underpasses and low roads during heavy rain.
- Report flooded roads or hazards to the Ministry of Public Works hotline 150.
- Check car wipers, tyres and lights before the rainy season starts.
