How many days until Ramadan in Kuwait?
The live counter above shows the time left until sunset on the eve of 1 Ramadan 1448, when the first taraweeh prayers begin, and then the start of the first fast at Fajr. As of late October 2026 Ramadan is a little over three months away. Once Ramadan starts, the counter switches to the next occasion – Eid al-Fitr and then Eid al-Adha – so you can keep using the same page all year.
The dates are based on the Umm al-Qura calendar. Kuwait confirms each month by moon sighting, so the official start can move by one day. Bookmark this page and check again in early February.

Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year because the Islamic calendar follows the moon. In 2030 Kuwait will even see two Ramadans in one Gregorian year – one starting in early January and another at the end of December.
How Kuwait announces the start of Ramadan
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ moon-sighting committee (هيئة الرؤية الشرعية) meets on the evening of 29 Sha’ban. If the new crescent is seen, the next day is 1 Ramadan; if not, Sha’ban is completed as 30 days and Ramadan starts the day after. The decision is broadcast on Kuwait TV, KUNA and official social-media accounts, usually a few hours after sunset. Kuwait often begins on the same day as Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states, but the decision is made independently.
For Ramadan 1448 the sighting is expected on the evening of Sunday 7 February 2027. If the moon is not seen, Ramadan starts on Tuesday 9 February and every date in the table above moves by one day.

Fasting hours, iftar and suhoor times in Ramadan 2027
Because Ramadan 1448 falls in February and early March, fasts in Kuwait will be short and the weather mild. On the first day Fajr is around 5:12 AM and Maghrib (iftar) around 5:32 PM – roughly 12 hours 20 minutes. By the end of the month the days lengthen to about 13 hours, with Fajr near 4:48 AM and Maghrib near 5:52 PM.
| Point in Ramadan 1448 | Fajr (fast begins) | Maghrib (iftar) | Approx. fasting time |
|---|---|---|---|
| First day (8 Feb 2027) | ≈5:12 AM | ≈5:32 PM | 12 h 20 min |
| Last days (early March 2027) | ≈4:48 AM | ≈5:52 PM | 13 h |
Times differ by only one to three minutes between Jahra in the north and Fahaheel in the south. For a full day-by-day timetable with imsak, see the Ramadan imsakiya for Kuwait; outside Ramadan, the prayer times page shows daily times.
Working hours in Ramadan in Kuwait
| Sector | Typical Ramadan hours | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Government ministries | Reduced; in recent years roughly 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM | Set each year by the Civil Service Commission |
| Private sector | Often 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Labour Law 6/2010, Article 64: maximum 36 working hours a week in Ramadan |
| Schools | Shortened by about 1.5 hours | Ministry of Education announces exact times |
| Banks and PACI | Reduced daytime hours | Published by each organisation before Ramadan |
| Shops, malls and restaurants | Open late, often until 1–2 AM | Restaurants serve dine-in after Maghrib |
Shorter hours apply to all employees, not only Muslims, under the Labour Law. If your employer asks for overtime in Ramadan, it must be paid at overtime rates. See our Kuwait Labour Law guide for overtime and leave rules.
Rules every resident must know during Ramadan
- No eating, drinking or smoking in public during fasting hours. This applies to non-Muslims as well. Kuwaiti law sets a fine of up to KD 100 and/or up to one month in jail for public violations.
- Eat and drink discreetly at home or in designated areas at work. Many offices set aside a closed room for non-fasting staff.
- Dress modestly, especially in malls and government buildings.
- Avoid loud music in public places and in your car with the windows down.
- Restaurants generally open for dine-in only after Maghrib; daytime delivery and takeaway in covered packaging continue in many places.
Chewing gum, vaping and drinking water in your car at a traffic light all count as public consumption. Be careful in the hour before iftar, when police patrols are common and traffic is heavy.
Ramadan traditions in Kuwait
Ramadan in Kuwait is a social month. Families gather for iftar, and many open their diwaniyas in the evening for visitors. Mosques fill for taraweeh after Isha, and in the last ten nights for qiyam prayers late at night; the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City draws the largest crowds. Around the middle of the month children celebrate Gerga’an (القرقيعان), going from house to house in traditional dress to collect sweets and nuts.
Charity is central: the Ministry of Awqaf, Kuwait Zakat House and registered charities run iftar tents and food-basket campaigns, and Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the Eid prayer. The amount per person is announced each year by the official fatwa and zakat bodies.
Planning tips for expats
- Government errands: do them before Ramadan or early in the day; PACI, the Ministry of Interior and other offices work shorter hours and queues build up.
- Traffic: roads are busiest 30–60 minutes before iftar and late at night after taraweeh. Leave earlier or wait until after Maghrib.
- Shopping: co-ops and supermarkets are crowded in the week before Ramadan and before Eid; buy staples early.
- Iftar buffets: hotels take bookings a week or more ahead, especially at weekends (Friday and Saturday).
- Travel for Eid: flights from Kuwait fill quickly for the Eid al-Fitr holiday; book as soon as dates are confirmed. See travel agencies in Kuwait.
Eid al-Fitr 2027 holiday in Kuwait
Eid al-Fitr is an official public holiday in Kuwait, normally three days, and the Cabinet often links it to the Friday–Saturday weekend so that offices close for longer. The exact holiday dates are announced by the Cabinet after the moon sighting. The private sector follows the same official holidays under the Labour Law. For the full list of 2026 and 2027 holidays, see Kuwait public holidays.
